2012 Champy Signature Bourgogne Chardonnay

This wine offers a texture that is smooth and full, with impeccable wood presence which reveals notes of dried fruit; quite present minerality; fine nutty, saline qualities on the finish.

"This is a generous, mid-weight fresh young Burgundy with generous oak that creates a slightly perfumed note amid the poached pear, peach pit peat smoke and vanillin. It's mid-weight with very firm acidity. Really quite generous and well structured Burgundy for the price. Stony and lemony on the finish; very good to excellent length and good value." - David Lawrason, 90 points.

2013 Elephant Hill Pinot Noir

They say elephants never forget - not sure how they test such things, but we're certain you'll never forget this magnificent creature. Violet, cherry, vanilla, beetroot, smoke, and spice notes on the trunk, sorry - on the nose. The palate is fruity and chewy with nicely framing tannins that add significant structure. Notes of fresh herbs mingling in with the floral and smoky notes. A nice, long and spicy finish.

Elephant Hill is based in Hawkes Bay on the North Island but has gone to the warmer Tarras (Bendigo) and Alexandra sub-regions of Central Otago for this bright, fruit driven young 2013 pinot. Expect lifted juicy, floral cherry/blackberry fruit aromas, with gentle oak and thyme. It's mid-weight, firm and fresh with some minerality on the finish. Quite tight and tannic as are many 2013's at the moment. Not as beefy as some Otago pinots from this area." David Lawrason, 90 points.

Really embracing the tropical side of Malborough Savvy, this wine shows ripe guava and passion fruit along with subtle notions of steamed garden veggies. It's juicy and refreshing from start to finish, with some nice oomph to the texture.

"A superbly elegant sauvignon blanc that is nicely representative of the best and most balanced examples from Marlborough. White pepper, freesia and ginger make up the alluring nose. The palate provides ample refreshment with notes of cucumber, lemon, and white grapefruit. There is a great deal of charm, pep and energy here. Characteristic flavours of grass and deliciously tart gooseberry linger on the finish." 90 points, Sara d'Amato

Elephant Hill Syrah

Displaying typical Syrah characters of blackberry and spice the wine stands out for its elegance and balance with soft, well integrated tannins and a long finish. With the correct vineyard and winery practices this wine also shows the versatility of Syrah in Hawke’s Bay in that it can produce quality wine in a cool as well as a warm vintage.

"The 2013 vintage is one of the best yet for New Zealand reds, including Hawkes Bay. This shows impressively deep purple black colour. This nose is lifted and ripe with black cherry, vanillin, classic syrah smoked meat and pepper. It's mid-weight fairly dense yet firm and tannic, with slightly tart acidity. Very good length with tobacco and earthy notes." 89 points, David Lawrason.

Open and intense nose offering rich, toasty tones with apple, pear, ginger, citrus and mineral. Active but gentle mousse and a very Champagne-like, rich character. Creamy and classy, with layered and complex flavours and a good length.

This classically styled Cabernet Sauvignon showcases pronounced aromas of blackcurrant with undertones of toasted oak and tea leaf. Enticing the mouth with a lively mid-palate, this well-balanced wine is framed with firm tannins that lead to a smooth finish of lingering berry flavours. This wine is an excellent accompaniment to a wide array of fare.

The juice of this wine is given short skin contact, thus the slight pink tinge. The contact also deepens the aroma profile. The wine offers notes of white peach, grapefruit, citrus and even a hint of honey. Dry and quite fresh, this zippy, intriguing wine is a fine palate-refresher, or match it to grilled calamari.

2012 Matetic EQ San Antonio Valley Pinot Noir

The destemmed grapes for the 2012 EQ Pinot Noir fermented in open inox vats with punching down, with indigenous yeasts, and the wine was aged for 14 months in a mixture of French oak barrels, making for a serious, attractive nose of sour cherries, blood oranges and a medium-bodied palate with good freshness and balance, clean, delineated flavors and a tasty, and dare I say it, mineral feeling. Great Pinot. Drink now through 2017.
