ROSÉ RETURNS, FALL FOR THIS BEAUTY

ROSÉ RETURNS, FALL FOR THIS BEAUTY

As the third largest grower of Pinot Noir in the world, Germany offers us a repeat LCBO offering of one of its best rosés. The Königschaffhausen Winery in the southern Baden wine region consistently wins medals, awards and accolades for its Pinot Noirs, whether seriously red or lively pink. It comes from selected south facing vineyards on slopes of the Kaiserstuhl, an extinct volcano. The vineyard name, Vulkanfelsen, identified prominently on the front label, translates from the German as “Volcanic Rock.” Compared to the rest of Germany, Baden shares its cultural, linguistic, gastronomical and winemaking affinities with its neighbors in Alsace and Switzerland. In other words, eins, zwei, dry. With a bouquet of red berries and a pleasant, fruit-driven yet dry taste, it sure is a seductive sipper. Swirl, sniff, sip! Repeat! Grilled salmon has to be the perfect meal pairing.

2020 Pinot Noir Rosé Dry K. Vulkanfelsen V168237, $14.95.
