QUÉ SYRAH, SERA

QUÉ SYRAH, SERA

QUÉ SYRAH, SERA

Cool climate Syrah is becoming a signature varietal in Chile. It is being sought out by consumers looking for less expensive options than expensive top drops from France’s Northern Rhône region, the ancestral home of the Syrah grape. The vineyards located in Rosario, part of the San Antonio Valley appellation, are cooled by currents coming off the nearby Pacific Ocean. They are all planted on hillsides with different exposures, with granite soils and a presence of decomposed quartzite rocks and deep layers of clay, which results in low fertility and excellent drainage. Deep, lively purple in colour, the intense varietal aromas of red fruit, violets, and pepper are balanced with notes of chocolate and spice from the oak aging. The palate has great body and intensity, with balance and complexity, long tannins, and a long, juicy finish. Corralillo is the name of a very old wine cellar that used to be located in the El Rosario Valley, where wines of the ancient “País” grape were once made. The horse-like image that looks like it could have been drawn by an elementary school pupil, is actually an image found in a local cave attributed to ancient indigenous inhabitants. Enjoy with a medium rare premium cut of steak.

2017 Matetic Corralillo Syrah #146407, $21.95
