NOT JUST ANOTHER MOTHER
Madre is the Spanish word for mother. Garnacha is one of the most widely planted Spanish premium grapes. Garnacha de la Madre is simply translated as the Garnacha of the Mother. But nothing is simple about this product. From organically farmed Garnacha Tintorera grapes on the winery’s El Horacajo vineyard, the harvest took place in the beginning of October. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts took place in stainless steel and then the finished wine was aged in concrete amphoras for one year. With no oak aging, this a very pure wine. Ruby red in colour, on the nose we get notes of white pepper, graphite, lavender and curry. On the palate we find red fruits, pepper and tea flavours. Beautifully counter-balanced between soft tannins and a fine acidity, the finish is long and elegant. Serve slightly chilled and pair with game, curry seasoned dishes. Or go seaside and enjoy with grilled tuna or swordfish. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave it 92 points.
