Airfield Estates takes its name from the property the Miller family ceded to the American Government for the duration of World War II to train air force pilots. Naturally, all the labels carry various airplane graphics. Located within the Yakima Valley, the Miller family is one of the largest grape growers in Washington State. Great-great grandfather, Howard Miller, was a visionary and the driving force behind developing a canal system off the Columbia river to provide irrigation to this desert landscape. This created the green oasis of fruit and vegetable growing of today. Selling fruit to other wineries, the Millers have first dibs to take the best parcels for themselves. Classic Burgundian fermentation of Chardonnay grapes took place in stainless steel and oak. Then, aging on lees for three months, and a further 8 months in tank and barrique before bottling. We are greeted with aromas of pear, butterscotch and apple. A slightly creamy mouthfeel on the palate with a well-balanced finish showcases a perfect harmony of acidity, fruit, and oak. Enjoy with roasted lobster complimented by a tarragon-lemon butter. Or, after finishing the dish of your choice, pair this wine with Brie or Camembert cheese.
